Overview
An intensive five-day course that will equip you to turn your next audition speech challenge into an opportunity that showcases your talent and commitment to a professional acting career.
Our audition workshop features proven exercises drawing on the vital training and performing techniques you need to create and prepare a compelling and successful speech – or ‘monologue’ as it is known in the US.
What you will learn
This course will teach you specific, repeatable techniques to be able to rehearse your speeches for auditions with greater confidence and professionalism. In our audition speech workshop you will:
– Learn how to tailor the right speech (es) for you and for specific auditions
– Recognise the most significant and impactful elements of speech structure
– Feel confident in presenting two, fully staged speeches.
Other topics covered include:
– Telling the story to engage your auditioner(s)
– Staging and timing your speeches to maximise your time
– The basics of voice and speech production
– Movement including transfer of actions and direction of gestures
– Self-presentation top tips
Structure and duration
This five-day workshop runs from 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday:
Day 1: Finding and choosing suitable audition speeches, working with your body
Day 2: Script analysis and breakdown. Telling the story and making the right choices for your characters
Day 3: Directing your speech, staging options and preparation of your speeches
Day 4: Acting out your staging plus placement, movement and gestures
Day 5: The Audition: Auditioning with your speeches (self-presentation, including entrances and exits)
Level and requirements
You must be at least 18 years old at the start of the course – there is no upper age limit – and fluent in English. If you are a non-native English speaker, you will need IELTS level 6.
There are no additional academic requirements.

About your tutor
Behsat Ahmet is an interdisciplinary theatre maker, practitioner and dramaturge with a strong reputation for creating live performance across diverse media on both sides of the Atlantic. His practice spans theatre, actor training, dance, and somatic movement practices, scenography and authoring for intermedial theatre productions. Behsat gained an MFA in Actor Training at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He also has an MSc [in Dance Science] from Trinity Laban Conservatoire and studied acting for camera in New York City. Behsat currently teaches theatre practice at Kingston University.
